If you feel like you’ve binged all the shows Netflix has to offer, might I suggest a pivot to audio? For many of us on the Obsidian team, podcasts serve as a news source, an outlet to get our creative juices flowing or just a way to sink our teeth into the latest true-crime series. There are also several podcasts related to the public relations industry that are sure to inspire and inform us as PR professionals. So, get your subscribe finger ready! Below, I break down three PR-approved podcasts I strongly recommend.
The PRWeek podcast
PRWeek is a trade magazine for the public relations industry, and its weekly podcast dives into the latest news and issues that impact PR professionals around the world. With a different guest each week, the episodes are quick listens and are extremely informative for those working in public relations, marketing and communications.
Hosted by Sophia Amoruso – founder of Nasty Gal, a vintage fashion brand – this podcast outlines how Sophia found success through ultimate failure. In November 2016, Sophia mismanaged Nasty Gal into Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Through this failure, however, Sophia didn’t give up. She became a New York Times bestselling author with her autobiography, #Girlboss, which was later adapted into a Netflix show. She then founded Girlboss Media, a content company that provides =female empowerment through blogs, conferences and podcasts. In her podcast, Sophia interviews women from a variety of industries. 10/10 recommend!
The Lively Show
When I grow up, I want to be Jessica Lively. Jess started a jewelry business when she was 15, and she grew that company into a successful full-time career as a business coach. Jess’ attitude toward life is that every moment should be lived with intention. This positive and delightful podcast is a great listen if you need a little motivation or just want to unwind after a busy day on the job.
And, of course, we have our very own podcast here at Obsidian called Off the Rock, On the Record! Our rock-star team shares insight and expertise on a variety of topics in the public relations industry. Check it out here.
