Q&A with OPR Intern Taylor McKinney
This summer, Obsidian secured a Level 2 intern who was no stranger to Obsidian. University of Memphis graduate, Taylor McKinney, served as a Level 1 intern in the spring of 2016, and we are so happy to have her back as a Level 2 intern! This outgoing, friendly and always-smiling team member is our spotlight this month!
Position at Obsidian: Level 2 Intern
College attending: University of Memphis
Graduation date: May 2017
Hometown: Memphis
Why Obsidian? I chose to start my career at Obsidian mainly because of the level of professionalism and the culture of the firm. Being a part of Obsidian’s team proved that an internship can truly be a gateway to starting a career within your field.
What you are most looking forward to about this internship: I look forward to further educating myself and gaining as much experience as possible. Since this is my second internship at OPR, I have held myself at a higher standard and refuse to turn down any opportunity to interact with clients or learn a new skill.
Favorite sports team(s): The Denver Broncos is my favorite football team, and I’m a huge Grizzlies fan. (I’m specifically a Mike Conley fan!)
Favorite summer vacation spot: My favorite summer vacation spot has to be Denver, Colorado. My husband and I have visited the Mile High City more than five times in the past year alone. There is always something happening, and the atmosphere is great when there’s not eight inches of snow.
Late-nighter or early riser? Definitely a late-nighter – I can fall asleep at the drop of a dime, but waking me up is like starting World War III.
Pets? I don’t have pets yet, but I’m keeping my eye on a Norfolk Terrier.
Favorite movie: My favorite movie is “Four Brothers.” John Singleton is a magnificent director and will forever put out great movies.
Favorite book: Anything authored by Terry McMillan
Most recent album/song downloaded: The most recent album I downloaded was from an artist by the name of SZA. The album is called “CTRL.” She is a new R&B singer and wrote a lot of music for Beyoncé and Rihanna.
Something you always keep in your fridge: There will always be a couple of sticks of butter in my fridge! I put butter in my vegetables and on top of chicken before baking it for more flavor and love.
Favorite item in your closet: My favorite item in my closet is a comfortable pair of Levi‘s jeans that I bought from Plato’s Closet. They’re stretchy and go with everything!
Something I always have with me: My MacBook – from downloading music to quick blogging, I rely on my laptop for everything.
What’s for dinner tonight? Tonight, I’m making baked pork chops with gravy, green beans and mashed potatoes — with plenty of butter!
