Team spotlight: Taylor Jolley
Do you have any client events coming up? What’s your favorite part of event planning?
United Housing’s Fright at the Brewery is coming up on Oct. 24 at Wiseacre Brewing Company on Broad Avenue. I love this event because of the Halloween theme and its fun nature. Combining one of your favorite holidays with event branding work is great.
What’s your favorite scary movie and why?
I love so many, but I’ll go with the one that spurred my initial interest in scary movies: When a Stranger Calls (1979). This one always appealed to me because it was terrifying and realistic. What is more bone-chilling than being a sitter, assuming the children are upstairs sleeping soundly, only to receive a call asking, “Have you checked the children?” There are no ghosts or haunts, just a shocking realization that the man on the phone is just a staircase away. Also, “the call is coming from inside the house” is an iconic line that I use frequently to point to moments of self-realization.
What is a piece of hauntingly good advice you’ve been given?
“Clean as you go” is my life motto. My dad initially taught me this when we would cook together in my childhood, but it has followed me throughout my life and is part of my daily ritual. I try to do things the right way the first time, cleaning things up and straightening them out before I wrap up the project. That might refer to the dishes as I cook dinner, my daughters room after we take care of her numerous baby dolls or a spreadsheet after a major data transition. If you clean as you go, things are more likely to stay organized and less likely to get out of hand.
Favorite Halloween candy?
Butterfinger has been my go-to for years, but Wild Berry Skittles are coming on strong this year as a competitor. Also, I’ve fallen victim to Nerds Clusters. They’re the new “bet you can’t eat just one” sweet snack.
What are your ideal Halloween plans?
I am leaning into my suburban mom era and putting together a fun table in our driveway with candy, snacks and treats for Halloween. I’ve started stocking up on decorations, candles and spooky things I’ll have out for kids and families that swing by. I love trick-or-treating and Halloween in general!
