Step into the holiday season with Brittany!
If you’re looking for support, someone to laugh with or just chat about random facts – Brittany is your girl! She’s been with Obsidian for nearly three years, and in her time, she’s been an amazing account partner and friend. Learn more about Brittany in this month’s staff spotlight!
It seems like only yesterday we were walking across the (miles long) campus at Mississippi State! What’s the one thing you’ve learned over the last few years that you wish you could go back and tell your college self?
As cliché as it sounds, every mistake is an opportunity to learn. Instead of trying to avoid mistakes altogether (I’m calling you out, college Brittany), understand that they’re a part of the development process.
If you were giving someone advice about where to eat in Starkville, where would you tell them to go? What about Memphis restaurants that have your heart?
I don’t think there’s a day that goes by when I don’t think about The Bin’s cheese fries. We’d always walk to the Cotton District to get them as a late-night snack, and they always hit the spot!
As far as Memphis eateries go, I can confidently say that I’m a regular at BABALU (Black Bean Burger, I love you) and The Crazy Noodle in Midtown!
You’re almost three years into your career at Obsidian! What’s been the most rewarding project or experience you’ve had so far?
By far the most rewarding project I got to work on was the Burlington holiday project. A local Memphian paid off numerous layaway items for those who had them at the Park Avenue location, so we worked on gathering content to share with local media outlets and facilitated TV interviews. It was heartwarming to see so many people walk out of the store with smiles on their faces!
You love to travel and you even interned in China! If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?
This is possibly the most difficult question I could be asked – there are just so many places I want to visit as soon as possible! I think Seoul might be at the top of my list currently. I have a few friends living in South Korea now, and the pictures they share of the city are absolutely stunning! I’m also trying to teach myself Korean now, so I’d like to put it to use in a city filled with lots of people and lots of culture.
We ALL have tasks we push off. What is your least favorite PR tactic to do and how do you get into the headspace to get it done?
The task that takes the most out of me to kickstart would have to be news releases. I like to use words – too many most of the time – so writing a concise announcement can be difficult at times. To get in the headspace, I like to jot down the high points and create an outline so I don’t get off track.
We’ve made it to the holiday season! How do you like to get into the holiday spirit?
FINALLY! The best way to get into the holiday spirit is by playing holiday movies. I don’t like working in silence, so once it gets to this time of the year, I like to play holiday movies as background noise.
We know you like cold, rainy weather (cue the Twilight soundtrack). What’s your advice for staying on task during *cozier* days?
Work where you’re comfortable! Sitting with your laptop on the couch may not sound like the most productive setting, but it is for me once it finally gets cooler. I also like playing YouTube videos of people walking through various cities across the globe – there’s something about the sound of snow crunching underfoot as people walk through busy European streets that keeps me focused.
