Quarantine… but make it fun!

What we’re eating and how we’re staying active

During this unique season, gone are the days of us OPR girls rushing off to attend board meetings or to take the kids to basketball practice after hours. We’re at home…with a lot of time on our hands to dig into tasty snacks and work on our fitness. We’re using all this downtime to liven up those two very important areas of our lives. Take a look!

It’s time to eat!

JENNA, THE ONE WHO IS CAFFEINATED AT ALL COSTS

Working from home has its advantages and disadvantages – one of them being that I don’t have a special coffee machine (I miss you, Coffee Ninja!) at my new place so I’m spending more money visiting the Starbucks drive-thru. As always, my snacks of choice are coffee and KIND Bars.

BRITTANY, THE ONE TRYING TO KEEP THE DOCTOR AWAY

Apples, I’m eating lots of apples.

CARLEE, THE ONE WITH THE GOOOOOD SNACKS

One of my favorites has been what I’m calling “grown up mac and cheese.” It’s cooked mac and cheese with a bunch of spices like cumin and red pepper and is topped with Sriracha. I’ve also indulged with Pancho’s cheese dip, Grecian’s red pepper hummus and Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies!

COURTNEY, THE ONE WHO IS MOM GOALS

We made homemade ice cream with our little ones by using Ziploc bags. It was educational, distracting and totally delicious. I highly recommend this activity for all ages.

WHITNEY, THE ONE WHO IS UPPING HER FRUIT GAME

My snack is probably boring because it’s on the healthy side, but I’ve really been munching on berries – specifically raspberries and blackberries.

GRACIE, THE ONE WE’RE ALL WORRIED ABOUT DURING THIS TIME BECAUSE SHE IS A SOCIALITE

Chips and salsa! The BABALU guacamole I got the other day hit different as well.

LAUREN, THE ONE WHO HAS BEEN WATCHING THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF

Homemade chocolate chip banana bread. YUM!

Workin’ on our fitness

TAYLOR, THE ONE WHO HAS MASTERED THE DOWNWARD DOG WITH HER DOG

My yoga studio is holding classes on Zoom! As an added bonus, I’ve been recording my classes so I can watch myself and focus on improvements. I’ve been taking classes for a year, and I don’t want to lose my progress because of this quarantine!

KELLI, THE ONE DOWN IN THE BAYOU

We’ve always been outside people and spent a lot of time in our backyard and neighborhood riding bikes, taking walks, etc. Being about eight months pregnant and keeping up with two littles gets my heart rate up plenty. We still do a lot of that while we look for stuffed animals in windows and sidewalk chalk art. Strangely, only now that the gym is closed, my husband has started taking runs around the neighborhood and doing weight work in our garage! One thing I did find was a list of activities that correlate with letters. I made little fitness sheets with all our names on it so we can wear the kids out in the yard. We also use sidewalk chalk to draw lines in the driveway and have races. We time the kids and see who can run the fastest. Then, everyone sleeps.

ME, THE ONE WHO CRIED WHEN HER GYM CLOSED

I’m sticking to my early morning workout routine to maintain some normalcy during this season. I do a circuit workout using my Madeline Moves app (10/10 recommend!) or run along the river before it gets too crowded for my social-distancing-rule-follower self. I walk around my apartment complex during my lunch break and after work, too, if the weather is nice.

ASHLEY, THE ONE WHO ESCAPED TO SUNNY FLORIDA

I take time in the morning before work to go outside and run, walk or bike the neighborhood.

ADDISON, THE ONE WITH THE DOG EVERY NEIGHBOR WANTS TO PET BUT CAN’T

Going on runs and taking Rooney on a lot of walks!

CHRISTINA, THE ONE WHO MIGHT HAVE A GREEN THUMB AFTER ALL THIS

Going on walks when the weather is nice. Also, being at home has motivated me to take better care of my house, so chores like cleaning and yardwork have kept me moving every day.
