Inside OPR

A challenge, but a fun challenge

I love a challenge, but I really love a fun challenge. The last year of my life and naming a couple tracks that speak to my experiences were just that. The period from August 2021-August 2022 was nothing short of eventful. Let’s recap.

Can you juggle?

Oh, you want to plan a wedding? Lead a super exciting new account? Travel? Move? Change your last name? You better learn to juggle, and juggle well. On Aug. 1, 2021, my now husband and I got engaged. I was floating on air for approximately 48 hours and then I got to work – as I always do. (Thank you, Obsidian, for teaching me to pay attention to detail and slooooow down, especially when it comes to event planning!) Around the same time, Obsidian landed a massive account I was totally jazzed about. My teammates and I hit the ground running to create a strategic plan from scratch that would take said client to new heights. (Update: Mission accomplished.) At times, my personal and professional responsibilities felt overwhelming, but teamwork makes the dream work, doesn’t it? And, as my momma told me many times over the last year, “You eat an elephant one bite at a time.”

Since joining Obsidian in 2015, I’ve discovered the best ability for me to have is availability. You see, most brands I work with don’t operate on an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule, and as a result, neither do I. I choose to make myself available to them 24/7/365… with one exception. I planned and I planned and I planned leading up to the longest PTO I’ve ever taken to ensure I could truly unplug during my wedding festivities and honeymoon. (Another update: Mission accomplished.) My teammates, who I have the utmost confidence in, are rock stars, so I turned my phone off and unplugged for 11 days. Magical. All the wedding planning and extensive time off reminded me it takes a village. I’m so grateful for my personal life-villagers and those I have the privilege to work alongside here at Obsidian.
