In the Community

Obsidian PR is proud to call Memphis home, and it is so much more than our office address. It’s where we live, it’s in our soul, and we are passionate about it. We believe that part of doing business the right way is venturing outside of our traditional daily roles to help in meaningful and impactful ways that align with our strengths and interests as a team. Being an active part of the fiber in Memphis makes us a better company and helps us serve our clients in the best way possible.

Throughout the year, we find ways to give back through volunteerism in our community and oftentimes to our own nonprofit clients. From filling gala swag bags to organizing items at Memphis Habitat’s ReStore and from working at fundraising events and reading to children, our team is passionate about serving others and making a difference. We fully believe it’s important for both our business overall and our individual team members, and it’s an integral part of our culture. On a weekly basis, team members also head out into the community on their own time to volunteer for a number of local and regional organizations.

Within our own walls, it’s equally important to offer opportunities for mentorship, job shadowing and structured internships. Our team has regularly attended mentorship events at area universities and organizations and speaks to student groups interested in learning more about agency life. Job shadowing is available to students who may not have a full semester or summer to dedicate to an internship and typically takes place over a day or two. It’s a wonderful time to get an inside look at how an agency runs and hear directly from our team.

Obsidian’s internship program stands alone as the best way for PR students and recent grads to gain a vast skill set and grow quickly in the PR field. Check out our internship page to learn more about the two internship programs we offer each spring, summer and fall semester.

Through both volunteer and paid opportunities, the Obsidian team regularly shares professional knowledge through speaking engagements, conferences and key community events, such as the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Lunch in the Know series, Momentum Nonprofit Partners’ Mid-South Nonprofit Conference and many other industry and professional organization events both here in Memphis and around the region. It’s through this sharing of knowledge that we build connections and collaboration with other trusted small businesses and nonprofits that we know are important for Memphis’ economic and cultural growth. Similarly, we participate in the Chamber’s Advice on Tap program for small businesses.
